Over the last few years, we’ve had the pleasure of selling a number of properties in Te Atatu Peninsula and Te Atatu South. We’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for this part of Auckland and we reckon, if you’re searching for a family home, Te Atatu should definitely be on your list of suburbs to consider.
Why do we reckon Te Atatu’s so special? Here are our top 10 reasons:
- The housing stock rocks.
Most Te Atatu Peninsula real estate, and homes in its sister suburb of Te Atatu South, are 1950s and 1960s weatherboard – solid, dependable and prone to scrubbing up beautifully after a bit of DIY.
- It’s close to town (and wineries).
Less than 15kms from Auckland’s CBD, and around 13kms from the wineries of Kumeu, Te Atatu is perfectly positioned for both work and weekends.
- That view!
If you haven’t visited Harbourview Reserve and gazed back towards Auckland’s CBD, then you’re missing out – it’s a perfect spot for a romantic picnic, or a day out with the kids.
- It’s family-friendly.
If you’ve got a young family, you’ll love the large, modern Library, and the neighbouring village green (which features an awesome playground!). There are plenty of good schools in the area too – if you’re looking at houses for sale in Te Atatu Peninsula or Te Atatu South, check out the Ministry of Education’s website to find out what it’s in zone for.
- It’s set up for cyclists.
Prefer to get around on two wheels, rather than four? The Northwestern Cycleway runs right past Te Atatu, meaning you can literally hop on your bike and ride right into town.
- The water is on right on your doorstep.
If ocean swimming, kayaking, boating or fishing is your thing, then Te Atatu is the suburb for you. Both Te Atatu Peninsula and Te Atatu South offer great access to Auckland’s Harbour, as well as a fantastic local Yacht Club. Te Atatu south is bordered by the Whau River, providing lots of lovely waterfront properties and many stunning walks along the water’s edge.
- Public transport is super-easy.
Both Te Atatu Peninsula and Te Atatu South are well serviced by buses, making it easy to get from home to the city.
They make damn good coffee, the slices are mouth-watering and there’s a sandpit outside for the kids… Honestly, what more could you want in a local?
- There’s always something on.
From the Sunday Markets to sporting events, plays and concerts, there’s always something happening on the weekends.
- It’s a community in the truest sense of the word.
The rest of the country might give us Aucklanders a hard time for having no sense of community but, we can assure you, the people of Te Atatu have it in spades. The clients we’ve worked with in Te Atatu tell us that this is the kind of place where neighbours look out for one another, local merchants are supported and community events are a regular thing.
